Flying Over the Grand Canyon

A+ A- A

Aviation ServicesIt’s no surprise that the Grand Canyon is the most visiting site in the U.S. This is because it is an amazingly beautiful natural wonder of the world, and is on almost everyone’s bucket list! The Grand Canyon provides 277 miles of gorgeous sites, including the Colorado River that runs below the rim.

As beautiful as it is to see from the ground, the Grand Canyon is even more amazing from the sky. Your plane can allow you to explore the Grand Canyon in a way that you wouldn’t otherwise be able to. Seeing the canyon from this viewpoint provides you with the ability to witness millions of years of geological evolution. Many describe the colors, size, and beauty of the Grand Canyon as ‘breathtaking.’ Learning to pilot your own aircraft will provide you with the opportunity to witness this for yourself!

The first flight over the Grand Canyon was in 1919, the same year it was named a national park. Since then, flying has become a very popular way to view the canyon and all of the amazing sights.

The main restriction regarding flying over the Grand Canyon is noise-related. It may seem trivial but part of the lure of the canyon is its serene beauty and silence, not the sounds of jet engines flying overhead. These noise levels have been monitored by the FAA since 187 when the National Park Overflights Act was passed. Because of this, the National Park Service encourages quiet air technology when flying into the canyon.
